The locals of the island take care of the man while his wound heals. After a while he dreams of a woman, a beautiful woman. It is the first dream of many that brings him closer to himself. Then he finds a ruined collection of poems by Dylan Thomas on the beach. When he browses through the book he knows for sure that he will find his answers in Wales. The man crosses the ocean, together with the village chief and his son, to start his journey to the other side of the world. Meanwhile he is having more dreams that reveal pieces of his past. ‘For the readers of Paolo Coelho and Santa Montefiore’ The book is indeed full of spirituality, myths, secrets and especially love, but it’s missing the many wise lessons of Coelho and the romance of Montefiore. But It’s better to talk about what this book is, instead of what it is not. It’s clear that this book of Zingoni is a search for the true identity of the stranded man and especially for the woman whom he loves. In this book is a lot of variation between the reality (in the present) and a kind of dreams. Sometimes it’s unclear what’s the real world and what’s one of his visions, but it’s vague, because his dreams are a kind of reality and the man himself doesn’t know, especially in the beginning, what’s the meaning of his dreams. The main character doesn’t know who he is and what happened, that’s why the reader is just as curious for the truth as the man. Francesco Zingoni The writer started as a poet and songwriter. It’s something you can notice in this book. The poems of Dylan Thomas are very important, but there are many of them and sometimes it’s a bit too much to try to understand them all. Still poetry and also songwriting are important for this book, because without the poems, the book wouldn’t be complete. This debut of Zingoni is a journey across the world, a search for memories and a great desire for love and a special woman. This book is nicely put together and beautifully written, but not it’s not suitable for the down-to-earth Dutchies. |
